Reference images

The reference images used for this project were created using AI. I used at least one thing from each of the four images generated to gain inspiration for my final product. Something that all the images had in common was that they were a similar shade of white, with similar reflective properties on the outer walls. Another thing they had in common was that they also featured sizeable windows with uniform tint. The rationale for this project was that I had never done a futuristic themed project before, nor had I made something as complex as a house.

From this image, I took the angular extrusion on the far right of the building, as well as the indent, including its colours. I placed these on the same place on my model and had the indent with the black colouring on the back side, where there was more space.

The internal lighting that is present in this one inspired the internal lighting I used in the building. I also took the door, seeing as it seemed to come toward the camera.

I was inspired by the side that comes down from the top, and the arch to the ground component on the left side of this one and incorporated a similar structure on the building. Additionally, I took inspiration from the elevated cylindrical structure on the left side, and made a similar component on the building, complete with the same elevation on the right side.

From this image I took the shape and tint of the windows, as well as the extrusions on the top and bottom, to be on the top floor on the right side of my building. I was also inspired by the curvature of the windows, and used them on the bottom floor.

Progress

Something I learned from this project was how hard it is to place an object on an uneven surface, if the base model is flat, which mine was. The way I solved this problem in Unreal Engine was that I had to copy and then flip the model so that it would connect to the ground.

3D model

The render was done in Unreal Engine, while the background landscape was made, and then imported in, using World Machine, with the texture having been made using assets from Quixel Bridge. These were hand painted into the surrounding landscape.

 

One of the ways the model can be improved is the inclusion of a concrete foundation surrounding the building. It would also be nice for the building to be in a neighbourhood where it would fit in better with other futuristic buildings inspired by a different set of AI images.
